'Where are you REALLY from?': Navigating & Challenging Microaggressions for a more Welcoming and Inclusive Campus
Okanagan Campus | 12:00pm–1:30pm
Building a welcoming and inclusive campus is an important part of thriving at UBC. Yet, microaggressions -- the slights and everyday interactions that communicate negative ideas usually about a marginalized group of people -- can create an unwelcoming campus environment. This workshop builds on an intersectional approach to identities and experiences that shape how people show up at UBC (in online and in-person classes, workplaces, and social events). Participants will explore how to navigate and challenge these instances as an Agent (committing microaggression(s)), a Victim (target of the microaggression(s)), and/or as an Active Bystander. Together we can build more welcoming and inclusive campuses and increase our wellbeing so that we can thrive!
