Managing Difficult Conversations
Vancouver Campus | 9:00am–4:30pm
Both academic and non-academic workplaces are fraught with difficult conversations, many of which take place across power differentials. This day-long workshop provides practical skills in how graduate students, recent grads and junior professionals can navigate situations in which they need to raise a difficult issue with a supervisor, or respond to a problem. We introduce some frameworks for understanding such dynamics, and tools for conflict analysis, boundary setting, managing our triggers, and preparing for difficult conversations. There will be opportunities to both discuss and rehearse creative strategies, with help from our colleagues at Conflict Theater.
