UBC Okanagan celebrates 3rd Annual Golden Apple Award

Campus Health at UBC Okanagan worked in partnership with students to host the 3rd annual Golden Apple Awards to acknowledge faculty members making outstanding contributions to Wellbeing in the academic environment. Over 100 nominations were submitted and twenty faculty members were awarded – two in each of ten categories. Award categories are based on the resource Teaching Practices that Promote Wellbeing. The winners were:

  • Dr. Abdallah Mohamed (Computer Sciences) – Structuring the course effectively
  • Dr. Aisha Ravindran (English and Cultural Studies) – Creating a safe classroom environment
  • Dr. Bernard Bauer (Environmental Sciences) – Recognizing that Students have lives outside the academics
  • Dr. Claude Desmerais (German) – Helping students find value in the subject matter
  • Dr. Derrick Wirtz (Psychology) – Openly discussing wellbeing-related topics
  • Eric Zvaniga (Management) – Supporting learning outside the classroom
  • Dr. Hussein Keshani (Art History) – Helping students find value in the learning process
  • Dr. James Rochlin (Political Science) – Fostering peer-to-peer relationships
  • Jeewon Yoo (Physics) – Delivering the material effectively
  • Dr. John Wagner (Anthropology) – Fostering peer-to-peer relationships
  • Dr. Lisa Grekul (English) – Creating a safe classroom environment
  • Dr. Margo Tamez (Cultural studies) – Fostering student-instructor relationships
  • Monica Good (Languages and World Literatures) – Fostering student-instructor relationships
  • Norine Webster (Management) – Helping students find value in the subject matter
  • Dr. Ramon Lawrence (Computer Sciences) – Structuring the course effectively
  • Dr. Sally Willis-Stewart (Health and Exercise Sciences – Openly discussing wellbeing-related topics
  • Dr. Scott Reid (Biology) – Supporting learning outside the classroom
  • Dr. Shirley Hutchinson (Psychology) – Delivering the material effectively
  • Dr. Stephen McNeil (Chemistry) – Helping students find value in the learning process
  • Dr. Ying Zhu (Management) – Recognizing that students have lives outside academics
