Sports From Home

Vancouver Campus | 4:00pm–5:00pm

This event is held in partnership between the Kinesiology Undergraduate Society (KUS) Health & Wellness Committee, KUS BIPOC Committee, and UBC Recreation. As Thrive indicates, ‘moving more’ is an important way to promote positive mental health. We wanted to include an intersectional lens and promote diverse opportunities to promote one’s mental health. We will be using the grant funds to put on an initiative that showcases cultural physical activities and sports that reflect some of the diversity of our community. We hope to highlight some of the great activities that are not always showcased or reflected here on campus and bring some of “home” to campus. Participants would be able to drop-in and participate in various cultural activities throughout the week. Some of the activities we are hoping to feature include Banghra Dance, Shuttlecock and Futsal. The grant funds would be used to compensate instructors. UBC Recreation would assist in the initiative costs by sponsoring facility and equipment costs.
