Description:
What do diets, BMI, racism, and ableism all have in common?
They are all things that the body positive movement are pushing back on. Every new year, millions of consumers are bombarded with ads that promise to unlock success by fitting into a narrow definition of ‘health’ and ‘beauty’. But what would happen if we shifted our thinking to critically examine and transform a culture that promotes fat hatred, racism, ableism, and homophobia?
Learn about the roots of the body positive movement and how to begin to dismantle these oppressive practices in your own practice during the 30-minute lunch time chat with Body Positive Personal Trainer, Ruby Smith Díaz.
About the speaker:
Ruby Smith-Diaz was born to Chilean and Jamaican parents in Edmonton- amiskwaciy and graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Education with distinction.
Since graduating, she has found her passion working as a facilitator, multi-disciplinary artist, and supporting marginalized communities in feeling powerful and grounded in their bodies.
Ruby is a certified personal trainer through Canfitpro, and the winner of the 2020 Canfitpro Personal Training Specialist of the Year Award. She hopes to utilize her own journey through battling body shame and chronic pain to support others in becoming their most full and powerful selves through bringing movement into their bodies.
