Apply for a Thrive Grant
Please note that Thrive grants for 2025 are now closed. Applicants will be notified once funding decisions are made.
Grant Guidelines & Criteria
Grants of up to $500 are available to UBC community members who have a great idea for an event that promotes mental health. See details below.
- Must be a current UBC student (affiliated with an AMS group or with a faculty or staff sponsor), faculty, or staff.
- Events can be for the entire UBC community or for a specific population/group
- Events must demonstrate a commitment to supporting mental health and mental health literacy, such as:
- An educational seminar or workshop
- An opportunity for social connection or fostering supportive and inclusive communities
- Skill building to support positive mental health and resilience
- Highlight mental health and wellbeing resources on campus
- Advocate for mental health and reducing stigma
- Thrive Grants are based on a reimbursement model: Recipients are required to pay for expenses up front and will be reimbursed after the event. See Reimbursement Details for more information
- Grant recipients must submit all required documentation, including a grant report by January 16, 2026 at 4pm.
Grants can be used for:
- Instructor or facilitator fees
- Workshop or event supplies
- Room rental fees
- Food, catering (Note that some departments may require you to collect names of attendees if serving food at your event. Check with your home department)
- Prizes for attendees (names of prize winners must be collected)
Grants cannot be used for:
- The purchase of gift cards or gift certificates of any denomination
- Costs that would ordinarily be covered by UBC departmental budgets
- Donations or fundraising
- Applicants cannot profit financially from their projects or award themselves an honorarium
How to Get Reimbursed
- All purchases must be made by the primary grant recipient. You cannot submit expenses from multiple people under one grant.
- All funds must be used by December 31, 2025
- Reimbursement documentation must be submitted by January 16, 2026 at 4pm.
- Grant recipients are required to pay for expenses up front and will be reimbursed after the event.

Example Events
Need some inspiration for your event? Here are a few examples of events funded in past years:
- Panel Discussion: The UBC-V School of Nursing hosted a panel discussion titled THRIVE Panel Discussion: Navigating Nursing with Neurodiversity, Mental Health Challenges, & Other Unseen Disabilities
- Trivia Pursuit Event: The Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology hosted Trivia Pursuit, which shared information about Thrive, as well as wellbeing initiatives, resources, and topics.
- Thrive & Revive Wellness Fair: Residence advisors from Walter Gage hosted a Wellness Fair that featured stations representing each of the Thrive 5 principles.
- Workshop: Vantage College and Residence Life hosted a workshop on using guided imagery/ visualization as a stress management tool. Students were provided with a ‘starter kit’ to begin building their grounding skills and resources.
