Support student mental health in my classroom 

 


  • Embed a Canvas module entitled “Stress & Self-care: Thrive Edition”– Created by the UBC Wellness Centre, this module is available via the Canvas commons and can be embedded into your course for your students to learn about: 
  • The role of stress as it relates to academic performance
  • Their own stress response 
  • Implementing resilience and coping strategies

     

  • Know the signs your students may need help:

  • UBC Human Resources Health, Wellbeing and Benefits 
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program (LifeWorks)
    • EFAP provides both short-term clinical counselling and work-life consultations to all eligible UBC employees and their dependent family members.
    • The LifeWorks Care Access Centre is available 24 hours, seven days a week, at 1-800-387-4765.
    • Access the enhanced wellbeing offering through the LifeWorks wellbeing platform by using your Campus-Wide Login (CWL) at ubc.lifeworks.com.


 


  • Register for Coaching Services through UBC HR. 
    • Whether you seek one-one-one coaching for yourself or wish to develop your communication skills to be more coach-like in your conversations with others, Coaching Services can support you to grow in your career. 

  • Register for a training or workshop through UBC Human Resources 
    • UBC offers a range of programs and services in support of mental health – from meditation programs to reduce stress to training sessions on how to help co-workers struggling with depression.

Community Supports 

  • Third Space Charity
    •  Free supportive virtual and in-person counselling to UBCO Students 
  • Walk-in Wellbeing Clinic
    • Brief (up to 30 minute) psychological first aid services by telehealth are available to any individual in the Greater Okanagan (age 16+) who is experiencing stress or having difficulty coping at this time. Call (250) 807-8241.
