Exploring the Wellbeing Landscape in Teaching & Learning at UBC: Ideas to Action
Vancouver Campus | 1:00pm–2:30pm
UBC’s Strategic Plan highlights wellbeing as an area of significance, with a goal to “Lead globally and locally in sustainability and wellbeing across our campuses and communities” (2018, p. 13). The Plan also highlights “renewal and innovation of learning environments” as a key pathway to advancing wellbeing (p. 42), specifically mentioning the opportunity to embed wellbeing into the teaching and learning environment. This open space and dialogue-based session will focus on exploring the current landscape of wellbeing, teaching and learning at UBC. Participants will also learn about opportunities to become involved in current initiatives and contribute their ideas for action. Participants will have the opportunity to explore, through poster sessions and 1-1 and small group discussions:
- Current student wellbeing data (Undergraduate Experiences Survey 2018)
- Practices that enhance student wellbeing in learning environments (Teaching Practices & Wellbeing small TLEF 2015-2017)
- Data pertaining to faculty wellbeing (Workplace Experiences Survey 2018) and faculty beliefs about their role in supporting student wellbeing (Teaching Practices Survey 2018)
- Results and learning from the Academic Tenacity TLEF project (various project sites 2017-2019)
- How graduate student learning experiences impact their wellbeing
