This event focuses on sleep health as a component of mental well-being in nursing students. Many nursing students experience poor sleep health due to academic demands, clinical placements, and final practicums. Moreover, sleep is particularly important for future nurses, since poor sleep is a major contributor to nursing burnout and adverse health outcomes. As an initial step in promoting sleep health in UBC nursing students, this 1-hour Thrive event will include an expert panel on sleep health in nursing, a collaborative workshop that promotes community building through small group discussions, and an overview of how nursing students can build their own “Sleep Health Toolkit”.
As a hybrid event, this event is open to both UBC-O and UBC-V nursing students. A panel of nursing faculty, Registered Nurses, and sleep health experts will discuss sleep health in the context of nursing practice, especially when it comes to managing shift work. Resources to build a sleep health toolkit from a selection of evidence-based strategies and sleep health resources will be provided, as well as information about campus wellness supports. All participants will be entered in a draw to win a prize!
