Mental Health: The Basics
This course is designed as an introduction to concepts surrounding mental health and provides a foundation of knowledge that you can continue to develop during your time at UBC.
In this self-paced course you will:
- Identify several different mental health frameworks or ways of knowing
- Recognize the difference between 'reasonable' and 'toxic' stress
- Identify potential ways to break the stress response cycle
- Reflect on the language used to talk about mental health
- Identify UBC resources available to support mental health
It is important to acknowledge that there are different ways of understanding the topic of mental health and this may include different lenses or cultural understandings. The information provided in this course is merely a starting point and will allow you to navigate through mental health topics at your own pace. Watch for reflection questions that will allow you to think about the content throughout the course.
