Decolonizing Yoga: a meditation with Co-Sensing Radical Tenderness
Vancouver Campus | 5:00pm–6:30pm
Different from common perceptions of Yoga in the western practice, we will mediate a self-reflection in company of the Asana (physical activity in Yoga). This meditation will bring discomfort to the mental space we create. The intention is to connect our mental and physical discomfort to reflect on itt and learn to grow with it. We seek to challenge the cultural and territorial appropiation of Yoga, a practice that is not ours in unceded musqueam territories.
This event is open to everyone. Given the nature of it's hyper-reflexivity, we acknowledge that this practice might be challenging, therefore we recommend considering participant's positionality and contextualize their capacity to be part of this event. Limited mats, RSVP will be available.
Decolonizing Yoga: A meditation with Co-Sensing Radical Tenderness will be hosted by the UBC Global Lounge, UBC Yoga Club and in collaboration with the Gesturing Towards Decolonial Futures Collective, a group dedicated to finding action-oriented efforts to challenge colonialism in modernity.
