The Wellbeing Strategic Framework guides how UBC brings the Okanagan Charter to life. As we refresh the Framework, we’ve been engaging with the UBC wellbeing community to understand what’s working and where we can evolve.
One opportunity identified was to make this work more visible, accessible, and engaging to invite our broader campus community into the world of wellbeing and health promotion work.
The UBC Wellbeing Ecosystem was co-created with wellbeing partners across UBC to visualize how wellbeing is being cultivated across our university community.

It reflects several key themes from our engagement phase and review of institutional surveys and wellbeing data:
Roots & Soil
Our commitments to the Okanagan Charter and UBC’s plans that strengthen equity, planetary health, Indigenous rights and decolonization, and student and employee experience are essential components of growing a health promoting university.
Trunk
Our shared approach to wellbeing work is collaborative, relational, community and student-driven, strength-based, and focused on systems-level change.
Branches
Our foundational key settings that promote health and wellbeing for our entire university community. The current Wellbeing Strategic Framework focuses on six community-informed priority areas and we aim to continue implementing and identifying actions that build off these branches.
Bees
Wellbeing is not the responsibility of wellbeing units alone, but rather everyone UBC contributes to a culture of wellbeing. Everyone at UBC has a role to play.
Storms We Weather
The world is rapidly changing, and new opportunities and challenges emerge that impact the wellbeing of the UBC community. How will UBC respond and support its community to remain well in turbulent times?
