Vancouver Campus

Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Atrium

Thank you for your interest in participating in “Category is…Vogue”, funded by Move UBC.

This event will introduce the ballroom culture to members of the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharm Sci) through a series of three one-hour vogueing lessons. Vogueing, as a medium, allows the performer to express their stories and imagination through movements, emotions and costumes. It subverts the institutionalized ideals of beauty and art, and it challenges the performer to reflect critically on their identities and the positions they hold in society. By the end of the series, Pharm Sci students, faculty members and staff will gain appreciation for the ballroom community and demonstrate greater understanding of the history, contexts and resilience that shape the ballroom, IBPOC and 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

Registration: https://tinyurl.com/pharm-vogue

Preparation: Please wear appropriate workout attire and comfortable shoes when coming to class.

Photography: The Faculty's Digital Content Specialist will photograph one of the three sessions. We will gather your informed consent in the beginning of the session. If you do not consent to having your photos taken, please let us know.

Code of Conduct: As a reminder, this is a space to celebrate IBPOC and S2LGBTQ+ communities. There will be a zero-tolerance policy for racism, bigotry, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, misogyny, violence, oppression and other related levels of unacceptable disrespect.
